Experience an important piece of Chicago history at Willie Dixon’s Blues Heaven Foundation. This recording studio facility’s exhibits and presentations link the present, past and the future of the Blues. Just South of the Chicago Loop, 2120 S. Michigan is the home of one of the locations of Chess Records, the record label whose countless musical masterpieces are woven tightly into the cloth of American music. This Chess Records location (note the Chess lettering on the front of the building!) is now the “BLUES HEAVEN FOUNDATION with the mission to Promote, Preserve, and Protect Blues and to help artists and musicians obtain what is rightfully theirs, to educate both adults and children on the history of Blues and the business of music,” per BluesHeaven.com. The foundation was created by Willie Dixon. If you don’t know who he is, then, you really really have to see it. If you already know of Dixon’s contribution to the American music canon, then you really really have to see it.
All summer you have the opportunity to see the Record Row Concert Series with Melody Angel on June 13, 2024 and Jimmy Burns Band on July 25, 2024 to name just a few: for more information click here. The foundation also offers tours, which you can schedule in advance at 312-808-1286 or info@bluesheaven.com.
